Revolving loan fund grows quickly
July 21, 2009

[September 2009 update on status of loan]

Thanks to our generous donors, Just Haiti has raised almost three-fourths of the money that requested by the coffee growers’ association in Baradères.

We have raised $17,899 of the $25,000 the growers requested.

Within a few weeks we expect to have a signed loan agreement with the association, the Café Développement Baradères. Construction of new coffee processing sites should then begin right away. And once the agreement is signed, we will make the details available.

Raising the loan money is a big advance for Just Haiti and the growers. But the growers can pay back the loan only if we can sell their coffee. All profits from the sale from Kafe Lespwa go to benefit the association, and those profits supply the funds they will use to pay back the loan.

So, please consider purchasing some coffee--today and regularly. You can buy it online or, if you are in the local Washington, D.C., or Chicago areas, you can contact us to arrange for a local pickup.

Of the total raised to date for the revolving loan fund, donors gave $6,588 on April 25 at the Just Haiti fundraising event at the Embassy of Haiti in Washington, D.C., and $3,311 since then. We already had $8,000 in the fund from previous donations. We will devote all future donations to Just Haiti to the loan fund until we meet the growers’ goal.
